EASTBOURNE RUMBLE: 50S DJ NIGHT
There was a time when a seven-inch single could arrive looking modest enough and proceed to change popular music.
Eastbourne Rumble returns to The Grove for its sixth outing, with Dave Mumbles at the controls for a five-hour DJ special played on authentic vinyl and with the Grove’s sprung dancefloor ready for proper use.
Rock ’n’ roll and rockabilly sit alongside rhythm ’n’ blues, doo wop and blues, with plenty for the jivers, boppers and strollers — and those harder-to-file records which simply demand to be played.
It is a period when the boundaries were still being drawn: blues was feeding R&B, R&B was colliding with country, and rock ’n’ roll was discovering just how much trouble could be caused in under three minutes.
A stack of original records, a sprung floor and five hours to give them their proper hearing.
