IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE – A LIVE RADIO PLAY

The show that opened the Grove in December 2019 returns for Christmas.

George Bailey thinks his life has amounted to very little. Clarence, an angel still waiting to earn his wings, has good reason to disagree. On Christmas Eve, he gives George a glimpse of Bedford Falls as it would have been without him.

It’s A Wonderful Life is performed in the style of a vintage radio broadcast, with actors switching between characters and sound effects created live on stage. Part of the pleasure is watching the company conjure up an entire town—and the people who make George’s life worth living.

A favourite with Grove audiences, the production brings together affection for the film and the ingenuity of radio theatre.

Based on the short story The Greatest Gift by Philip Van Doren Stern.

Presented by the Grove’s in-house company, whose productions include Talking Heads, The Mirror Crack’d and Jeeves & Wooster.

Runtime: 2 hours plus interval.
